You are
considering marriage within the context of a Christian setting !
For your benefit, the expectations and requirements for
such a ceremony at Christ Church are listed down the page.

Couples
desiring a church wedding select Christ Church for many reasons, most often because one or
both consider it to be their "church home". Other attractive features include:
- Seating for up to 400 guests.
- An attractive Chancel.
- A wide centre aisle.
- Air conditioned Sanctuary
- Both a pipe organ and an electronic keyboard.
- Parking for 100 cars.

If this interests you, look through the rest of our
Wedding Page before you call the Church Office to reserve a time.
The Wedding Service
At Christ Church we believe that to be married here,
either in the sanctuary or the chapel, is a privilege and not a right. Since it is a
sacred place of worship, we affirm that the wedding service shall be Christian in its
tone: reflecting the attitudes, the beliefs, and the principles of faith in Jesus Christ.
Preparation
To plan and prepare for the wedding service, we
require that you both meet with the minister at mutually acceptable interview times.
Another important pre-requisite to marriage is the preparation you both will undertake as
you participate in a course of Pre-Marriage Education. Such an exercise is both
informative and enlightening as you get ready for a new life together. The Church Office
can provide you with information about available courses.
Legal Documents
1. License
To be married you need to purchase an Ontario Marriage License at City Hall. It is
valid for three months, and must be obtained at least three days before the wedding. As
soon as possible, complete items 1-27 on the license, and bring it to the Church
Office to be added to your file.
2. Banns
If both of you are church members and are in the habit
of attending worship, marriage banns may be published in place of purchasing a license.
The banns (intention to marry) must be proclaimed during the worship service in the church
of the bride and of the groom at least once, and at least five days prior to the wedding.
Music
You will select music for your wedding
processional and recessional in consultation with the director of music.
You are welcome to discuss any special requests with the director of music.
If you wish a vocal or instrumental soloist to be included, then details should be
discussed with the minister and the organist.
The director of music does not usually attend the wedding rehearsal. If this is
desirable there will be an additional fee.
Wedding Rehearsal
If you are planning a formal wedding, then you will
likely wish to have a rehearsal. If so, it is desirable to have all members of the wedding
party present, including the parents of the bride and groom. Rehearsals must begin on
time!
Church Decorations
- Christ Church will be decorated seasonally for Lent, Easter,
Thanksgiving, and the Advent season. These decorations will remain in
place during weddings held in these seasons.
Photographs
To maintain the dignity and sanctity of worship
in your wedding, we do not permit the taking of photographs during the religious
service (i.e. from the time the mother of the bride is seated).
Photographs may be taken at the time of the signing of the register, and if requested,
arrangements can be made to photograph a re-enactment of any portion of the ceremony.
Arrangements for professional photography need to be discussed with the minister.
Video-tape
Video-taping of the wedding ceremony is permitted
as long as no lights are used and the videographer does not move around during the
service.
Arrangements for video-taping need to be discussed with the minister.
Confetti
It is not permitted to throw confetti anywhere at
anytime inside or outside the church building, or on the church property.
Adhesive Material
No adhesive materials are to be used in the process of
fastening bows or other decorations to the ends of the oak pews, because of the risk of
damage to the finish.
Fees
The Church Office will send an invoice to the
couple at least thirty days prior to the wedding (or as soon as possible if thirty days is
impractical). Full payment, by cheque made out to "Christ Church", is to
be submitted not less than ten days prior to the wedding. The church will then issue
individual cheques to the staff involved in the wedding.
The fee to be invoiced is made up of the following components as applicable:
Facility Fee
| Sanctuary |
$250 |
| Chapel |
$100 |
Note:
The facility fee is waived when either the bride or groom (or their parents) are regular
contributors to the upkeep of the church through the general funds of Christ Church,
Mississauga.
Staff Fees
| Officiating Minister |
$200 |
| Wedding Coordinator |
$125 |
| Organist |
$125 (wedding only)
$150 rehearsal & wedding) |
| Custodian |
$100 |
| Office Administrator |
$25
$50 (when bulletins are prepared) |
Note: A staff member may choose to waive the fee in special circumstances. For
very small weddings, it is unlikely there would be any staff fees except those for the
minister and the administrator.
Other Items
If requested, the church may supply
candles for the communion table, candles for the candelabra, or wedding bulletin covers.
The charge for these will be based on their cost.
Reserving the Church
This list of
details has been drawn up to enable you to plan your wedding with the full knowledge of
all that is involved in being married at Christ Church.
Once you have discussed and can accept the arrangements listed
above, then you are ready to confirm your reservation of the church for your wedding and
its rehearsal. This should be done as far in advance of your wedding date as possible.
Call the Church Office (905 822 9834) to make an appointment to see a minister.
May
your wedding be a time of joy and blessing and celebration!
