Stewardship refers to responsible management of resources under one's
control. A steward is usually not the owner, but one entrusted to manage on behalf of the
owner. Although the term "stewardship" seemed to have fallen out of common usage
(except in churches, where it came to be a euphemism for financial support) it is now
being used more often, particularly in environmental statements to convey the notion that
prudent management benefits others, and future generations in particular. Christians need
to rediscover the notion of Christian Stewardship as a life-style in which all that we
are, all that we have and all that we use is treated as a trust from God, to be used in
response to the needs of others, both now and in the future.
