Special Gifts -- from hymn books to stained glass windows to the
organ -- are found in the furniture and decorations of the sanctuary. Other special
gifts have been used to expand our Outreach, enrich our Worship, enhance the Sanctuary,
and energize our Spiritual Development and Leadership Education, all beyond the
limitations of the annual operating budget.
- The Christ Church General Endowment Fund -- This is a permanent capital
fund from which only the income is allocated annually according to the guidelines for
distribution of special gifts [50% to Outreach, 30% to Worship and the Sanctuary, 20% to
Christian Education Projects and Leadership Development].
- The Unrestricted Special Gifts Fund -- This fund receives funeral gifts
and other non-restricted cash gifts to the church. It is also distributed according
to the above guidelines.
- Restricted Special Gifts Funds -- These are funds set up for specific
purposes and usually for a finite period. An example would be the fund set up to
receive donations for purchase of our new VOICES UNITED hymn books.
Occasionally an offer is received to fully underwrite a major gift (e.g. pave the
parking lot or install a stained glass window).
To find out more about how your Special Gift can be used to remember a loved one or
celebrate an occasion, and also benefit Christ Church, please contact the Church Office
(905 822 9834).
"Special Gifts" may also be in the form of Planned
Giving. There are several ways that you can organize your financial affairs to
enable you to make a donation to your church. All of these options should be
discussed with your financial and legal advisors.
Your Will -- A bequest in your Will allows you to recognize Christ
Church, an organization which you have supported in the past and that you wish to continue
to support in this way.
- A specific bequest directs that Christ Church will receive a specific amount of money or
piece of property.
- A percentage bequest specifies a percentage of the estate for the church. If the
value of the estate changes, the bequest will change in proportion to the overall value.
Whatever your choice, most bequests are simple and inexpensive to place in your Will.
You should always consult your legal advisors when preparing or amending your Will.
Life Insurance -- A life insurance policy is a simple way for an
individual to leave a substantial sum of money to the church, for a modest annual amount.
If your church is named as the Owner of the policy and is named as the
Beneficiary, you can receive tax receipts for any premiums you pay.
Many times people have life insurance policies that are no longer needed for their
original purpose. In this case, the beneficiary can be amended. Your insurance agent
can make the changes needed to use your life insurance as a planned giving vehicle, and
you will receive tax benefits.
Annuities and Trusts -- Both of these methods of planned giving can be
much more complex. If you would like further information, please contact the Church
Office (905 822 9834) or discuss them with your financial advisor.
The Trustees of the congregation will be pleased to assist anyone
considering any of these approaches to planned giving.
Please remember the church when planning for
retirement or
making a will.
