Rain Clouds
Rain clouds begin to form over the sea. Yahweh demonstrates that he is God, even of fertility, by the sending of the rain and deliverance from the drought.
The Altar
The altar is made of twelve stones, representing the twelve tribes of Isreal. The wood is laid out, and water has been poured on it (and spilled to the ground around it.) All that is required is for Yahweh to send the fire -- which he does.
Let Justice Roll Down
Amos condemns the unjust practices of his day. He sees justice as a "tipping of the scales" in favour of the poor.
The Law Within
Jeremiah foresees the day when there will be no need for external law, symbolized here by the tablets of stone, because God will put the desire to do what is right within the heart.
