The Dove
The dove is often the symbol for the
Spirit of God, and is shown here "... descending, like a dove, and coming to rest on
him." while a voice [God's] proclaimed, "This is my Son ..."
The dove is also shown in the Nativity
window and the Resurrection window, other important events in the story of Jesus.

The Birds of the Air
Apart from the dove symbolizing the Holy
Spirit, Jesus uses the "birds of the air" as examples of God's providence or as

panel.

The Lilies of the Field
Various references to flowers in the Bible are

"lilies of the field" as plants which do nothing useful, yet are beautiful to
behold. Followers are admonished to be like the lilies and not to worry about what
they are to wear.

clearly how he does light all the world.

The Book
Below the lamp and above Jesus' head, is the
outline of the uppper half of a book. All that we know about Jesus we have from a
book, specifically the gospels. The stories of Jesus emerge from the pages of the
Bible. But just as the lamp is higher than the book in this window, so Jesus is
greater than the Bible, and the faith of Christians is to be fixed firmly in a person, not
a book.
