Mary Magdalene, having come to the garden tomb early in the morning of the first day of the week, encounters the risen Christ, but mistakes him to be the gardener.The two figures in this panel depict the first resurrection appearance. It is in the calling of her name that Mary recognizes Jesus, and falls to her knees in adoration and praise, lifting her hands to God in a gesture of thanksgiving. Then Mary went and announced to the disciples, "I have seen the Lord." (John 20:18)
