The Ascension of Christ
"... he withdrew from them and was carried up into heaven."
(Luke 24: 51)Thus Luke completes his gospel account of Jesus’ interactions with his disciples.
This window is dominated by the powerful figure of the ascending Christ, the excitement of colour, and the flow of lines. All movement in the panel is directed from the bottom (where the artist calls on a reference from the Hebrew Bible -- Elijah's chariot) toward the top where the presence of the Creator God is depicted symbolically in the triangle, a reminder of the Trinitarian understanding of God’s person, and the circle, a reminder of the eternal nature of God.
