The Passover
This panel portrays a moment early in the evening of the night in which the demon of death "passed over" houses marked with the blood of a slain lamb.
Here we see one family unit. All is ready; the lamb which will provide the last meal for perhaps a long time is being prepared. The mother protectively embraces the baby, while the husband tries his best to reassure her. The older child is excited but questioning. Deep in the house the artist has placed a bright light, like a warm family fire. Should the family opt for a freedom they do not know, or stick to the slavery they know with its small comforts? To choose freedom is an act of faith.
When we call Jesus the "Lamb of God" we are tapping into our Hebrew Heritage.
